Dalton Handley has worked with this firm for well over a decade – the talent within this tier-1 law firm’s Business Development is exceptional, the leadership team is strong and stable, and their partners are best in class across all key areas of practise. This firm is seeking a motivated and experienced Business Development Manager stepping up, or established Senior Business Development Manager to contribute to the execution of the firm’s Energy & Resources strategy. Reporting to a highly regarded BD leader, you will also play a key role in nurturing and developing the broader team.

As the Energy Sector BD lead, you will hold responsibility for developing and managing plans for engaging with priority clients. Responsibilities include:

  • Cross collaboration with relevant priority sectors and other parts of the business, leveraging work that is already being done.
  • Client engagement – leveraging in person opportunities to listen to clients, identify trends, build relationships, and build profile for the firm.
  • Partner coaching – working with commercially astute, high performing partners to drive superior client engagement outcomes and success with major pitches.
  • Identifying and driving profiling opportunities – including sponsorships, conferences and thought leadership – work with lawyers or external content writers to develop content.
  • Identifying and contributing to the development of legal expertise across the business – lateral hires, Senior Associate development, working with others to deliver education and training to the broader firm.
  • Working autonomously and focusing on collaboration and connection – utilising the firm’s existing infrastructure and activity to leverage work that is already being done.
  • Contributing to and driving projects and initiatives outside of Energy to support the firm’s strategic objectives.

What we’re looking for:

  • A bachelor’s degree (or similar)
  • 7+ years’ experience in a mid to senior level business development role in a corporate or partnership environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in influencing a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience project managing key pitches and pursuing new business opportunities.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent commercial awareness
  • The ability to navigate complex matrix organisations.
  • Working knowledge of Energy topics and issues (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated expertise in influencing a diverse range of stakeholders • Strong interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build trusting 
  • relationships with the partnership and business services alike 
  • Experience project managing key pitches and pursuing new business opportunities 
  • Strong project management skills, sound organisational, planning and project administrative skills 
  • Demonstrates commercial awareness
    Ability to navigate complex matrix organisations
