Dalton Handley is partnering with one of Australia’s most highly regarded national law firms to search for an enthusiastic and talented Business Development Executive to join their team in Sydney. You will form part of a national BD and Marketing team known for it’s strong culture where team members set each other up for success.

Reporting to a Business Development Manager, the Business Development Executive will take responsibility for the development and implementation of BD strategies to strengthen client relationships as well as pursuing and positioning for new opportunities in targetted areas. Other responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with partners and teams to execute their strategic business development and marketing plans, as well as monitoring and assessing plans on a regular basis;  
  • Assisting with client relationship strategies, including participating in client listening initiatives, ensuring the delivery of client commitments such as value adds;
  • Collaborating with the Business Development and Marketing team to identify opportunities for collaboration between teams to promote the firm’s expertise and approach to target clients, industries and regions;
  • Project managing and preparing tender responses, credentials, and directory submissions from end to end;
  • Proactively building and maintaining effective working relationships with partners, managers, staff, clients, external service providers, and industry associations relevant to your designated teams;
  • Supporting individual lawyers and teams to develop their business development skills and to prepare and execute personal business development plans that align with the firm’s strategic priorities and team goals;
  • Contributing to the firm’s strategy, including supporting various projects and working on firm and BDM team projects that drive process improvements, solve problems, and enable us to continue expanding our support of the firm in new and exciting ways.
  • Develop and maintain the bid schedule and timeframe ensuring that inputs are submitted on time.
  • Advise and support prepositioning analysis and input into project go/no-go decisions through providing market analysis, competitor analysis etc.
  • Contribute to the formulation of the bidding strategy, taking into consideration client trends, competitors’ approaches and the team’s configuration and capacity.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to other members of the broader team on the overall bid process, approach and details.

What are we looking for?

The successful candidate will possess tertiary qualifications in business, marketing or a related field. This role would suit a BD Coordinator with a minimium of two years’ experience looking to progress, or a BD Executive looking for an opportunity to develop new skills and gain further experience. You will also demonstrate the following key attributes:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build rapport, and develop effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels;
  • Strong written, communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to deliver strategic key messaging in a consistent and simple way;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Proven ability to effectively manage priorities, projects and deadlines, and communicate accordingly with relevant stakeholders;
  • A hands-on approach, and willingness to support the team during peak periods and contribute to a cohesive team environment;
  • A passion for continuous learning, including supporting the development of BDM Coordinators and Administrators; and
  • Adaptability and flexibility in meeting the firm’s evolving needs.
