Dalton Handley is partnering with one of Australia’s leading law firms to recruit two Business Development Managers to support the firm’s ambitious growth agenda. The well resourced business development and client function offers ambitious, strategic and commercial professionals the opportunity to develop bring forward innovative ideas and have a genuine seat at the table. In these roles, you will oversee the strategic development and management of the firm’s key initiatives relating to one of two key service lines, including client management, pursuit initiatives and related pitching. You will work closely with the other business development managers in your stream. You will be supported by a shared pool of Advisers and Coordinators and have access to a centralised pitching team for larger, panel-based opportunities.
Key responsibilities:
In these positions you will have the opportunity to work alongside industry leading partners to set and implement the strategic direction of the practice. Working with domestic and international clients, and across legal matters that help shape the Australian legal landscape, these highly sought after roles will provide the variety and challenge you seek to further develop your strategic business development skills.
You will be responsible for:
- Proactively managing the practices in alignment with the Firm’s strategic objectives, supporting on the implementation of the firm’s Strategy at the practice area level;
- Working with senior stakeholders to identify and proactively pursue growth opportunities;
- Identifying, planning and executing specific client engagement opportunities.
This involves:
- Leading pitches / pursuits for new and existing clients for the select groups and supporting on firm-wide opportunities;
- Managing / supporting on individual client relationship development for practice area, stream and Firm clients;
- Supporting on the development and marketing of emerging products and service areas and responsibility for a number of industry focussed initiatives / pursuits;
- Driving market profile raising, including providing a source of market/industry insight to key stakeholders and supporting on content creation and engagement with media;
- Mentoring and leading team members;
- Working with the wider team to implement the Firm’s Strategy, including supporting on other business critical projects across the business; and
- Communicating the vision and purpose of the function within the Firm to heighten its understanding of the role of BD as trusted advisers.
Skills & Experience Required
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (either business/legal/finance) coupled with legal / client development experience gained ideally from a professional services environment;
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and proactively;
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, the ability to influence, persuade and negotiate;
- Strong project management skills and a proactive and pragmatic style;
- Proven leadership skills;
- People/team management;
- Resilience and self-motivation, able to work autonomously with a large degree of flexibility and adaptability.
